Who am I?
My name is Wesley Baird. This will be my second semester at TAMU-C. I am
currently pursuing my Bachelors of Science in Mathematics with my Secondary
Education Teachers certificate. I am married with 1 child(Zeke).
What free time I do have not doing homework I try to spend with my family. Zeke
gladly takes up my excess time when possible, which I do not mind. What little
time I do not spend on homework or with family I will play some games on Xbox.
I spent 7 years working for a pipe fabrication company before I decided that I
wanted to go back to school and become a teacher. I realized while working
there that I did not want to continue on that path like my family before me.
Being a teacher is something that I always wanted to do. I never had a really
good teacher in high school and that inspired me to become a teacher. I hope to
be a great teacher since I did not have one.
My vision of technology in the classroom.
My vision is to be able to incorporate technology in the
classroom every day. It has occurred to me over the last few years that
nearly everyone uses some form of technology in their everyday life. I have
observed students from different grade levels that will get ecstatic when the
teacher moves away from the old style chalkboard lessons and use technology to
teach the class. I hope to be able to use Promethean boards and Mimio notebooks
in the class to allow the students to help teach each other as well as me. I
would also like to maybe have a blog site that will allow the students to get
assignments as well as ask questions if needed. The only problem I see with technology is that
there are still people that do not have access to it. I know that it is hard to
believe but I have seen it. I worry that if you happen to get one student in
your class that does not have access to the internet at home you will not be
able to take full advantage of technology without singling out a student which cannot
happen. Hopefully, I will not ever run into this problem.
What are my goals in this class? What do I hope to learn?
My goal of this class is to learn and explore different
methods of incorporating technology into the class. I hope to have a better
understanding of the technology that is available to use and make sure that I
know how to use it. Technology is advancing more and more everyday and my
future students will have to know how to use technology as they pursue the life's
dreams. I hope this class will help keep me up to date on current times so I
will know about things that my future students will need to know about. One of
the main goals is to make sure that I can find some way to keep students interested
in Math. Very few students if any at all get excited about going to Math class.
I hope to find a way to make sure my students look forward to coming to my
class.
